New Look!

The first thing I have to say is that The Cutest Blog on The Block is amazing! I contacted them through their website and within a little over a week I have this gorgeous new blog! THANK YOU SO MUCH! If anyone needs a little blog pretty-ing, you must contact them! A dream to work with.
Anywho! Back to room 202 for some ten frame fun! At the beginning of the year we really worked on what a ten frame is and how to understand them. Now that we are focusing on teen numbers - we are adding another ten frame and trying to match the teen numbers to the corresponding ten frames!
We first matched the ten frames to the numbers as a whole group.
I then added this matching game to one of our math tubs with a corresponding worksheet to check for accuracy. The worksheet really helps for me to see if they are understanding the concept or not. Then I can plan to revisit if necessary.

These activities and more can be found in my winter math activities packet! Click the image below to check in out!! :)

I would love to know of any other fabulous ideas anyone has for practicing teen numbers! Can never get enough practice.
Anywho! Tomorrow is Friiiiiiday and I can't lie about being excited for the weekend! Talk to you soon!

Winter Wonderland Math Activities

Hi! Just a quick post tonight about a fun activity we did in the classroom today!
I wrote these really simple, fun story problem activities {in my winter wonderland packet} and utilized them with my kiddos today. We have been working really hard on word problems and how to solve them. These story problem sheets I made gave my sweet kinder babes a space to solve the problem with a picture, use a number line, and then solve it with the number sentence. We used to smart board and did this as a whole group and then my kiddos got to work independently on their own! Check it out below... they LOVED it! I told them they were working on first grade stuff. They were so proud of themselves!

Please check out my Winter Wonderland Math Activities packet below! :)
Happy solving!

Addition Paper Chains

We have been working extremely hard in room 202 on composing and decomposing numbers! Solving addition problems can be a tricky task for a five year old so I am constantly looking for new and exciting ways to help them understand. Recently I found a really fun idea on Pinterest that I just had to try out!
For this activity we used pre-cut orange and blue pieces of construction paper. The kiddos then chose an addition problem that equaled ten or less and picked out the correct number of construction paper strips to represent the problem. They wrote the problem on a sentence strip and my sweet assistant helped to staple the rings together and hook on the number sentence with a paper clip. I then hung these up on the ceiling in our room! Now the kiddos get to look at the different ways to make different numbers all day long!
Here are some photo of our activitiy:

The original idea was found here:
Although it seems the link doesn't actually follow through to the blog it came from. If anyone knows where the original blog is please let me know. Got to give credit where credit is due!!

Have a wonderful evening all! It's almost Wednesday! ;-)

All Sorts of Sorts!

Hello Hello!
Good evening everyone! I hope you had a wonderful day doing whatever it is that you do! :)
I wanted to talk digraphs, baby! How do you all teach those tricky beginning sounds?
My school uses a phonics curriculum called "secret stories." These are wonderful FUN tools that teach the kiddos phonics tools through easily memorable short stories.
To supplement this new learning, I made a little activity for my kiddos to sort words pictures by their beginning digraph! We did this as a whole group activity and then I added the sort to my pocket chart station during my daily literacy rotations.
Here is a picture of one of my smarties doing the sort this morning!
She LOVED it! I also really enjoy when they don't recognize the picture. This is a great opportunity to teach them a word they don't know!

You can buy this sort on TPT from the link below

This product not only includes a pocket chart sort, but it also includes two printable sorting worksheets! Click the link above for more images!
Happy Digraph-ing!
Good night, sleep tight!

Very Valentine Sight Words

Being a newlywed, I find myself wanting to stay in more and more these days. Staying in and.....well...mostly eating cookies, cake, brownies..really whatever has sugar in it. This has become a problem, folks. So tonight I decided I would use some of that energy to make something new and fun for my kiddos.

Luckily, my favorite holiday is right around the corner, so it was pretty easy to decide what I wanted to do.. Something to do with Valentine's Day!
My kids can never get too much practice when it comes to sight words, so I decided to mix the two together! I came up with some flash cards with sentences on them to practice fluency. I chose the sight words my school uses for their kinder babies, but I would be more than happy to add more words to the packet if necessary. Here is a little preview of the cards!

New Beginnings

Hello! I am so glad to be joining the blogging world!
To tell you a little about myself, My name is Ellen and I am a Kindergarten teacher in Oklahoma. I just adore my job {most days ;-)} Teaching can be challenging, but it really is just wonderful to see how your kiddos can change and grow in such a short amount of time.
It has been mighty cold here in Oklahoma and my little ones have been settling back into the New Year with some review activities. Although they can never get enough practice with those tricky teen numbers!
I made these one-to-one correspondence puzzles for the kiddos to match the numbers to the corresponding amount of penguins. They loved counting the little penguins and of course they love the sense of accomplishment they get when they match up all the pieces correctly!

You can download this little freebie, here:

You can also purchase the puzzles with number words here:

Have fun with the puzzles and have a wonderful weekend!!
